Buffalo Niagara International Airport Case Study
Buffalo Niagara International Airport, like many other airports across the country, has limited on-site short-term and long-term parking during peak travel seasons. Overwhelmed by its parking shortage, the airport asked SP+ Airport Services to develop a creative parking solution that can accommodate its holiday travelers.
Expecting a nearly 20% spike in daily traffic, SP+ Airport Services developed a short-term fix that would temporarily expand the airport’s shuttle bus capabilities. We located eight small, temporary parking areas within three miles of the airport, directed customers to these lots, and offered free shuttle service to transport them to the terminals. Additional on-site parking staff and experienced shuttle bus drivers were scheduled to work over the four day weekend holiday to direct traffic, and the operations were managed by two out-of-state managers who were immediately dispatched to the airport.
Through the efforts of SP+ Airport Services, travelers were able to avoid unnecessary taxi rides and inconveniences and most importantly, were able to catch their planes on time, while the airport was able to avoid directing parkers to non-airport lots.
